Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Gameplay Trailer Revealed At The Game Awards

Frontier Games revealed the gameplay trailer for Elite Dangerous: Odyssey during The Game Awards. Odyssey is the next expansion for Elite Dangerous, the space exploration simulation game. In it, players assume the role of a starship owner and get to undertake both more sedate activities like mining and more hectic ones like combat.

The new expansion pack, expected to release sometime in 2021, allows exploration by foot on worlds for the first time. Players will also get specialized suits and gear options for ground operations, a feature that includes social hubs across the galaxy.

Frontier also promised new dimensions to combat and will cater to players with different preferred styles. There will be weapon and gear options for both flashy, head-on fights and stealthy approaches.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey preorders are available now, and the expansion retails for £30 / $40 / €35. Get it on Steam, the Epic Games Store, or FrontierStore.net. Elite Dangerous is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

In GameSpot’s Elite: Dangerous review, Leif Johnson rated it 7/10. He praised the game for its beautiful, massive world and great combat mode, but thought that the learning curve was a bit steep. Johnson commented, “True to its name, Elite: Dangerous is an intimidating beast. It’s a slow game that demands feats of patience, and it’s the kind of experience that may leave you unwilling to call yourself anything but a rookie even after dozens of hours. Once you scale its peak, though, its chief attraction is that it lets you see and travel farther than many other games have dared to. It may lack a certain spark and its missions tend to slip into drudgery, but I keep finding myself coming back to blast off toward any star in the night sky and eventually reach it.”
